Pau is the city of three royal families ! The one of Henri the IVth of course, King of France and the Navarre, whose castle still proudly dominates the city. It was also in Pau where in 1764 Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was born, who, simple soldier of Napoleon, had been offered by the latter a job as King of Sweden : the swedish royal family still carries his name. The third dynastie is incarnated by Aristide de Monpezat, mayor of Pau in the last century and "spiritual father" of the Pyrénées boulevard ; his descendant, Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, married Princess Margrethe of Denmark in 1967, thus becoming Prince Henrik of Denmark.
