Edward Hopper Exhibition

Focusing on the second quarter of the 20th century, this exhibition comprises some of Edward Hopper’s most famous works. Capturing classic images of middle-class America, these works are considered icons of American art, making Hopper one of the most popular artists of the 1900s.
Organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and the Art Institute of Chicago, this exhibition features a collection of thirty watercolours, fifty oil paintings and twelve prints, it includes works such as Lighthouse and Buildings, Portland Head, Nighthawks and Chop Suey.

One of America’s best-loved musical institutions, the Boston Pops attract millions of visitors each year, in a series of concerts and musical performances. The first Promenade Concert took place on 11th July 1885, at the Boston Music Hall and today this spring/summer festival takes pace at the Symphony Hall.
This year, the 122nd Boston Pops festival season will follow a full and exciting program of appearances from some of the world’s most renowned artists.
Highlights include:
Broadway and cabaret diva Liz Callaway (10th to 12th May).
American Inspiration - including Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and American in Paris, as well as Dvorák's New World Symphony (15th to 16th May).
Broadway and Hollywood (17th-19th May, 7th-8th, 21st-22nd and 29th-30th June, and 1st July).
Hollywood blockbuster film-scores led by Academy Award-winning film composer and Boston Pops Laureate Conductor John Williams (22nd to 26th May).
The return of the Jazz Fest will feature performances including the likes of Dianne Reeves, Gary Burton and Chick Corea (29th May to 2nd June).
America! (9th and 12th June).
Tribute to Broadway (13th to 15th June).
Gospel Night (16th June).
The season will round off with the ever-popular Pops on the Edge programs (23rd to 27th June) on the Charles River Esplanade and a special television broadcast to celebrate Independence Day on 4th July.
38th Gay Pride Parade & Festival Back Bay/South End Parade

The largest Gay Pride event in New England, with over 500,000 participants, the Boston Pride Week is a nine day celebration. This year’s celebrations will commence on Saturday 2nd June, with the official flag-raising at the Boston City Hall, and will finish with the Boston Pride Block Party on Sunday 10th June, 2007.
The 38th Boston Pride Parade will take place on Saturday 9th June, starting at noon in Copley Square, and will end in Beacon St. The most popular place to watch the parade is at the intersection of Clarendon St. and Tremont St., in the South End, but it can also be watched on screens at the Boston Common.

Over 2 million people now join in the festivities offered during the Harborfest. In the last 25 years, the festival has grown to become one of the nation’s most recognised celebrations, with more than 200 events organised throughout the week.
Events include theatrical performances, tours and guided walks around Boston and several of its civic buildings and sailing aboard the tall ships in the harbour. Most events are free and family oriented. One of the highlights is the traditional Chowderfest, where thousands of fans compete and visitors are able to vote for the best Chowder. A free concert is organised for every day of the festival and takes place on City Hall Plaza.
Fourth of July Celebrations

The Fourth of July (Independence Day) is the most important day in the American calendar. A celebration of the nation’s independence, it is the grand finale to the Boston Harborfest and a day full of entertainment.
The day commences at 9am, with the raising of the flag, followed by a small street procession to the old Historic State House, where the Declaration of Independence was first read.
The main event is the evening celebrations along the banks of the Charles River, where more than 300,000 people gather at the Hatch Memorial Shell for a performance by the Boston Pops Orchestra. It is also possible to take part in these celebrations from a boat on the river and enjoy the spectacular firework display from on the water.
