A guide to the forger's art Pieter Breughel the Elder enjoyed great success in his lifetime and unusually widespread recognition after his death. He was so well known that his works fetched outrageous prices, and demand far outstripped supply. But how best to give customers what they were clamouring to buy? Breughel the Elder's son, Pieter the Younger, hit upon the solution - by copying his father's works. He managed to keep up with demand but also raised some serious questions: Since he was only five when his father died, how could he have known so much about his work? Why did he choose to duplicate some paintings and ignore others? The exhibition gives visitors a rare opportunity to compare the original works of Breughel senior with those of his son, and to become familiar with the art of forgery.
