A highly prized Japanese art form The okimono carvers Miyagawa Kozan I and Morikawa Toen and Tsuda Nobuo are known and celebrated throughout Japan. They dominate a particular form of artistic expression that combines the decorative arts, miniatures and sculpture. By discovering the human or animal nature living inside such noble materials as porcelain, ivory, ceramic and bronze, these artists have become the acknowledged masters of okimono, the art of small, sculptural pieces. Their talent and inimitable styles have brought okimono the recognition it now enjoys as one of the most important art forms in the country.
