Photography in the service of a nation A nascent America in search of its identity was well served by the medium of photography. Although still in its infancy, this marvellous invention gave an equally young nation a means of defining, energizing and upgrading its image. The exhibition retraces this development through 170 original photographs by both amateurs and such professionals as Stieglitz, Evans, Steichen and Muybridge. From European immigration to the struggle for human rights and equality, photography has been at the heart of every battle, playing an undeniably decisive part in creating dreams, American-style.
