A unique collection of relics. A variety of objects, mostly ceramic, have been brought back from Costa Rica and the Gran Coclé region of Panama, to be added to the Barbier-Mueller collection. Pre-Colombian art in Central America is characterized by the region's ceramics and monolithic monuments. This exhibition showcases smaller objects such as spherical cups and vases with two, three or more colours, human and animal figures sculpted from volcanic rock, stone metates and millstones decorated with a variety of animal motifs. These wonders, still intact, bear witness to the forgotten history of pre-Colombian civilization.
