Rediscovering Holland. His idyllic Dutch landscapes made him one of the most influential Dutch painters of the 17th century. Aelbert Cuyp, born in Dordrecht, loved painting portraits, at which he excelled, as well as landscapes, or a mixture of the two, as he succeeded so remarkably in acheiving with his equestrian paintings that dissolve into wondrous landscapes. Without ever leaving his native city, he managed to master the art of the spiritual escape, adrift somewhere between blue skies and expanses of green grass. Despite the recognition of his talent, exhibitions of his work are all too rare. In fact, this is the first international-class exhibition devoted entirely to this artist. His paintings will undoubtedly strike a chord with foreign visitors.
