An association in support of art. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Association of the Friends of the Nationalgalerie, the museum is organizing a major exhibition to review this association's activities since 1977. Created as a result of political and cultural affirmation from West Berlin, the Association made possible the acquisition of several dozen masterpieces, such as the Barnett Newman painting, "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue IV," which raised a storm of controversy among members of the association at the time. All of these works are now on display to demonstrate how beneficial this type of support can be for the promotion of art. Those who were being pushed out by the Nazis just a few decades ago now are stronger than ever.
