Six artists and six approaches to Outsider Art. Monographic ensembles of selected artists as an overview of Outsider Art deliver six different ways to promote this trend for the Lille museum. It's an ambitious project, since this venue has the largest collection of Outsider Art in France and is hoping to show it in a permanent exhibition by 2006. For the time being, this space is totally dedicated to the works of Theo Wiesen, the Belgian artist, Judith Scott, a handicapped sculptor who overcame her infirmities through artistic recognition, Helene Reimann, who used drawing to purge her suffering under the Nazis, Scottie Wilson, a British artist who intrigued Picasso, Jean Dubuffet and André Breton, André Robillard, a French artist inspired by the media, and Victor Simon, a constant seeker of spiritual identification. The offbeat sensibilities and inspirations of these artists sum up all the power and fascination of Outsider Art.
