The artistic landscape. Often considered as only one of the steps towards impressionism, landscapes of the Barbizon School have evolved significantly and are now presented in a more modern view. This exhibition presents this new approach through a hundred works, providing a nearly exhaustive restrospective of the artists of this school. Rousseau, la Peña, Millet and Diaz all shared this passion for nature, which makes them the most representative painters of this open-air landscape painting activity. From the end of the 18th century until the middle of the 19th century, these painters worked in the Fontainebleau Forest, where they learned and perfected the techniques that are seen in the current exhibition. The show amounts to a general homage to both school and technique as well as to the painters themselves.
