From its inauguration the Hotel du Louvre was at the heart of all-great receptions and official functions. It has welcomed not only the great men of this world but also the artists. In 1897 the impressionist Camille Pissarro, took up residence in one of the apartments of the Hotel. He painted several of his great paintings of Paris from his window, some of which are to be seen at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. His apartment has become today the Pissarro Suite.
