Canaletto in Venice, exhibition

From Wednesday, September 19 2012 to Sunday, February 10 2013

Venetian views.

Of all the eighteenth-century Venetian painters of vedute, Canaletteo is the benchmark for the genre. Unlike many of his contemporaries, the artist called Antonio Canal (1697-1768) never experienced reversals of fortune, and his works have always been highly praised and eagerly sought after. These seem to have a timeless charm that transcend the vagaries of fashion.
The selection of works on show is the fruit of a lengthy selection process, aiming to show only signed pictures from historically documented sources. Loans from the world's major museums compose the exhibition's content, due to open from autumn 2012 at the Maillol Museum.
