Carnaval of Nice

Palais de la Méditerranée introduces you to one of the best and most beautiful carnivals in the world. The Carnival of Nice has indeed become a regional institution and a reference around the globe. The first Carnival parade was created at the Cours Saleya where the famous flowers market of Nice takes place every day (except Mondays).

Every year, the city lives to the rhythm of Carnival events. The height of the celebrations is reached with the parade of pageant floats decorated with flowers (the “corso fleuri”) on the Place Masséna and the famous battle of flowers on the Promenade des Anglais. This battle is a local tradition which was spread to other towns of the Côte d’Azur and later around the world. According to it, people have to exchange flowers during the Carnival celebrations. That is how Nice has also inspired the Carnival of Rio in Brazil.
