Historic place to visit in Berlin
Brandenburg Gate (“Brandenburger Tor” in German) is the only surviving and most impressive gate from a series of gates that constituted the wall encircling Berlin in the 18th century. Brandenburg Gate was constructed under Friedrich Wilhelm II. as a symbol of peace.
Ironically enough, it was embedded in the Berlin Wall and firmly locked for the duration of Communist rule.
Berlin Wall and reunification
Located at the very heart of Berlin, Brandenburg Gate today connects the West and the East part of the city. After the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, it became the symbol of the reunification of Germany.
