The museum island Berlin is an ambitious project, planning to join 600,000 years of mankind history in a unique museum complex by 2015. Visitors can discover the about 1 km² large museum landscape on an island at the Spree River in the centre of Berlin.

Berlin, city of art and culture
Berlin counts a total of more than 170 museums for art, history and science. Some of the most beautiful museums are located on the Museum Island:
Next to the so-called “Altes Museum” stands the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom). It was constructed in 1894 as a court and memorial church for the Hohenzollern family. It is also used as the burial place for 90 members of the family.
