Porte de Versailles

Porte de Versailles is one of the 17 historic gates that served to defend Paris in the 19th century. The Thiers containing wall, which became useless, was destroyed in 1882 and gradually replaced by the beltway that continues to circumscribe the city of Paris. The Porte de Versailles is located on the southwest edge of Paris, in the 15th district, between Issy les Moulineaux and the Rue de Vaugirard.

The Porte de Versailles is home to the main Paris trade fair facility, known as the "Paris Porte de Versailles" or "Paris Expo". Quick and easy to access from the beltway or from the Concorde Montparnasse Hotel, located in the business district, the fair grounds are the largest in France and the 4th largest in Europe. The building was constructed in 1923 to house the Paris Trade Fair, which had become too large to continue being held on the Champs-de-Mars.

The Porte de Versailles fair grounds extend over 22 hectares and are the venue for the most important trade shows: the International Agriculture Fair, the Auto Show, the Pools Show, the Paris Trade Fair, the Apple Expo and the Book Fair. Every year, approximately 200 events, conferences, trade shows or other types of gatherings are held there.
