Autumn is not a season of gloom - far from it! This time of year is synonymous with festivals for people in every corner of the planet: Cologne has its carnival and Tokyo its ‘matsuri’, and Geneva and Venice burst with musical exuberance - opportunities abound for celebrating the season's end with revelry and gaiety.

Geneva in operatic mood

On the shores of the lake Leman that bears its name, Geneva offers one of the most memorable musical experiences available at this time of year. Throughout the month of November, the Swiss capital echoes to the sounds of some of the world’s greatest composers with a series of concerts by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Special tribute will be paid to Berlioz on the occasion of the bicentenary of his birth, and the Victoria Hall will devote an evening to classical music's greatest arias with an exclusive appearance by the American diva June Anderson. The Grand Theatre will host six special performances of Katia Kabanova, the celebrated opera by Czech composer Janàcek.

The month of November will end in style with the 58th Geneva International Music Competition. Both experienced and amateur participants compete before an international jury.

Concerts, songs, and operas make Geneva a must-visit destination for music lovers this autumn.
