Waterfalls, turquoise waters, coconut trees… Set
between the Atlantic Ocean's turbulent waters and the placid Caribbean
Sea, Dominican Republic is a small, earthly eden, tailor-made
for lovers.
Can't decide between its North and its South?
Cabarete, on the North side of the island, has one of the Atlantic
Ocean’s most beautiful bays, with its palm trees and vast
reaches of white silver sand. This is a perfect setting for walking,
hand in hand, and listening to the waves wash ashore… unless,
of course you are an inveterate athlete. A windsurfer's and waterskier's
heaven, Cabarete is also the dream destination for couples wishing
to discover or rediscover the intense pleasures of water sports.
Farther South, colonial Santo Domingo's historic
district is awash with the nostalgia and romanticism of the Caribbean's
crystal clear waters. Wander around the heart of the city, where
everything is a reminder of its past grandeur, such as the renowned
Calle de las damas, the street where high society ladies liked
to be seen. For a change of pace come nightfall, check out Santo
Domingo's lively nightlife, with its salsa, merengue and bachata.
