Get
away, enjoy a change of scene... Each month we invite you to discover
new destinations and take in an exhibition, opera or festival. Travel
experiences with a difference, for a weekend escapade or a brief stay.
In
summer more than ever, cities become hives of creativity: in New York's
parks, Shakespeare is the guest of honour; the Italian city of Sienna
undergoes a transformation during its famous Palio; Strasbourg, France,
becomes a museum of contemporary art; and Berlin parties to the rhythm
of dancers and travelling entertainers.

“Sculpture”:
an austere name for an ambitious exhibition that presents the
overriding themes of 20th-century sculpture, focusing on two axes
- form and space. Hosted by Carré d’Art,
the city of Nimes’ contemporary art museum, this breath-taking
exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Centre Georges
Pompidou (Paris), Europe’s largest modern and contemporary
art museum.
From Brancusi to Giacometti, from Arp to Duchamp-Villon, 74 pieces
and 48 artists are displayed in a thematic journey that retraces
both the consensus and the conflict of the 20th century’s
greatest artists.
Spanning a time period that stretches from 1910 to today, this
rich and diverse exhibition brings together, in a way that is
both creative and oneiric, sculptures such as Brancusi’s
“Mlle Pogany III”, André Derain’s “Male
nude”, Alain Séchas’ “Le mannequin”
and Daniel Buren’s checkerboard “Cabane n°6”.
For a wide spectrum of sensations in the age-old city of Nimes,
be sure not to miss this avant-gardist and astonishing exhibition.
