Built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900, the Grand Palais is an exhibition hall with a spectacular glass domed roof, classical façade and decorative Art Nouveau ironwork. The Petit Palais is equally impressive and now houses the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris that exhibits a collection of paintings encompassing every period from the Renaissance to the 1920s. It incorporates Monet, Boudin and Renoir, Cezanne and Manet. The collection also features Art Nouveau jewellery, eighteenth century furniture, nineteenth century plaster models designed for the Madeleine church and vast canvases recording Paris's street battles during the 1830 and 1848 revolutions. |
