Located at the end of the Champs Elysees, Place de la Concorde is one of the largest squares in Paris. At the heart is a 3,300 year old Egyptian Obelisk which was given to France in 1829 by the Viceroy of Egypt. Around the square are many distinctive landmarks including the Tuileries Gardens, the Concorde Bridge and the famous Hotel Crillon. Originally called the Place Louis XV, the square was designed by the same King's architect, Ange-Jacques Gabriel and took 9 years to complete. The square features a statue of Louis XV which was commissioned by the city of Paris in 1754 as a gift to the King. Today it is a busy intersection but it remains one of Paris's most architecturally rich areas.
