Originally built in the 17th century by Marie de Medicis, the widow of Henri IV who took her influence from the Boboli Gardens in Florence, the Luxembourg Garden is a beautiful oasis in the middle of this bustling city. A gem in the heart of the popular Left Bank area of Paris, the gardens are popular with the locals who come to read, play chess and tennis, listen to musical performances and soak up the beautiful surroundings. The garden also includes many attractions for children including pony rides, puppet shows and a Merry-Go-Round. The Luxembourg Palace, now the residence of the Senat’s president, sits magnificently in the grounds and is open to guided tours. |
